Tutto Truffaut

In bookstores Truffaut’s name usually leads us to essays and conversations on film, rather than to any integral exhaustive study of the director’s work. This reference by Collet and De Fornari brilliantly addresses this need. It retraces year by year, film by film, the entire career of the famous director of Jules and Jim, The 400 Blows, Day for Night, and so many other masterpieces. Each film entry also includes comments by Truffaut himself, followed by a selection of European reviews and press at the film’s release (by such names as Moravia, Pasolini and Soldati). This new edition, with the addition of De Fornari’s contribution, is double the length of the first by Collet. A completely new collection of photos also illustrates this new edition to beautifully document a moment of European cinema that continues to inspire directors in all the world.

  • – An original “dual approach” to Truffaut’s cinema. Alongside the work of Jean Collet, this reference proposes a series of articles and short essays edited by Oreste De Fornari.
  • – A study that offers a wealth of information enriched by Truffaut’s own comments on each one of his films.
  • – Approximately 300 completely new photos with particular “philological” attention to stills and their significance, rather than posed photos on the set.

Jean Collet, historical writer of the Cahiers du Cinéma of the 1960s, is professor emeritus in several universities and author of the first book about J.-L. Godard. Oreste De Fornari is author of various books on W. Disney, D. Risi, S. Leone and classic American cinema and history of TV fictions. He worked for RAI-TV (National Italian Broadcast Co.) for many years as an author and a television presenter.
