Un traditore per la regina

Rosalie meets Antoinette for the first time in Strasbourg, at the home of the cardinal of Rohan, where the young future queen of France, who has just arrived from Austria, is a guest for the night.

Two young girls of the same age who meet to never be apart again. The first is a young scullery maid who is at work polishing silverware in the large, silent kitchen late at night; the second is looking for something to eat, having barely eaten anything at dinner.

The Dauphin (young princess) decides to take Rosalie with her, to Versailles, where she will stay next to her, day after day, living in unison in the shadow, a woman without rank, experiencing the hopes, the rare joys and the many tragedies of a woman slandered and betrayed by all those who should have loved her.

When Marie Antoinette passes away, Rosalie flees in the night to get to Austria together with André, her life partner. They must bring someone precious to safety: Maria Teresa, the young daughter of the sovereign, whom they freed from the jailers, who kept her prisoner, in exchange for a large sum of money.

A long night journey, during which the woman recalls the events that happened to the queen in the years that culminated in her sad end, as well as her naivety and the profound humanity she witnessed.

The enemies of Antoinette, more or less hidden or manifest, cruel and devious, were ignoble men and envious and shrewd women, who had betrayed her with malice and hate. But an unsuspected traitor, hired by the enemies of the monarchy, the most cruel and devious of all, destroyed her and led her towards the abyss.
