Medea e le altre. Il femminile e il materno tra antico e contemporaneo
Through ancient matrix figures, this volume explores the maternal and feminine dimensions in their various structural articulations in the context of modern and contemporary remodelling and transcoding. Starting with the example of Medea, several lines of enquiry are explored that reveal both the potential for an alternative to the male-dominated order and the conflictual dynamics of the present, where the role of women and related issues are pivotal for developing an ethic of sexual difference. The re-mediation of maternal and female figures provides new narratives and counter-narratives that highlight the perverse aspects of infanticide, the risks of denied motherhood and the depiction of the supersensual feminine or the repressed feminine. This leads to an exploration of the ambivalences of motherhood in the Berber myth of Ounamir. Consequently, the female figure, in her dual role as woman and mother, becomes a destabiliser of logocentric and patriarchal orders, revealing antagonistic and oppositional dynamics.
