Italian bookshops worldwide recommend… : Marseille’s selection (Grande Librairie Internationale)

From 2025 onwards, newitalianbooks is asking Italian booksellers all over the world to highlight the titles most in demand among their readers. With this initiative, newitalianbooks wants to strengthen the role of Italian booksellers abroad in promoting Italian books worldwide.
This month our guest bookshop is the Grande Librairie Internationale in Marseille.
The Grande Librairie Internationale in Marseille is a cultural landmark for readers and travellers from all over the world. Located in the heart of the city, a stone’s throw from the Vieux Port, it welcomes an international audience with a wide selection of novels, essays, comics and children’s books in at least five different languages: Italian, English, Spanish, Arabic and German.
Its catalogue ranges from the great classics of world literature to the latest publications, from the most current non-fiction (LGBTQIA+ and feminist) to graphic novels.
Born out of a desire to promote cultural and linguistic diversity, the bookshop regularly organises multilingual activities including meetings with authors, public readings, screenings, children’s activities, workshops and a wide variety of other initiatives.
Like the city that hosts it, it aims to be a welcoming and cosmopolitan port, open to diversity, where a passion for books and encounters with others can unite and enrich cultures and people.
‘Italian bookshops worlwide recommend…’ is an initiative organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The following titles have been selected for newitalianbooks readers by the Grande Librairie Internationale in Marseille…
