Italian bookshops worldwide recommend… : Vienna’s selection

From 2025 onwards, newitalianbooks is asking Italian booksellers all over the world to highlight the titles most in demand among their readers. With this initiative, newitalianbooks wants to strengthen the role of Italian booksellers abroad in promoting Italian books worldwide.
This month our guest bookshop is Buchhandlung List-Internationale Literatur in Vienna
The bookshop in Vienna’s 9th district was founded in 2013 as a branch of Hartliebs Bücher and, in 2023, under the new management of Nicole List, it became the Buchhandlung List-Internationale Literatur. From the outset, it has distinguished itself as a multilingual bookshop with sections in German, French, Italian and English, curated by native-speaking booksellers.
The Italian section is managed by Silvia Chiarini, originally from the province of Brescia, a bookseller since 2007 and a graduate of the Vienna School of Booksellers. With a catalogue of around 2500 titles including novels, essays, children’s books and graphic novels, it is aimed both at Italians who have chosen Vienna and Austria as their home, and at local readers who are passionate about Italian language, literature and culture.
‘Italian bookshops worlwide recommend…’ is an initiative organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The following titles have been selected for newitalianbooks readers by the List-Internationale Literatur bookshop in Vienna…
