The book is an insight into the life and personality of Cardinal Wim Eijk, Archbishop of Utrecht, one of the most beautiful and little-known figures in the College of Cardinals. The Netherlands is one of the most de-Christianised countries in Europe and the West, where the once glorious Catholic Church, which had become the standard-bearer for adaptation to the world, has experiencedan impressive decline since the 1960s. Few people know, however, that the Catholicism that is being rebornfrom that rubble is of a completely different sign from the recent past. And it is also the bearer of a message for situations such as ours, which are just a little further back on the sloping plane of secularisation.

Willem Jacobus Eijk, born in 1953, priest since 1985, ordained Bishop of Groningen by John Paul II in 1999 and Archbishop of Utrecht in 2007 by Benedict XVI, is the current Cardinal Primate of the Church of the Netherlands. In these pages he tells his story to Avvenire journalist Andrea Galli, already co-author in 2014 of Intervista su Dio(Interview on God), a successful four-handed volume written with Cardinal Camillo Ruini.
