A life like a novel, between glory and tragedy, a life like a movie. The legendary and unrepeatable triumphs, the dramas and misadventures of the greatest character of our sport in the world. The protagonists tell the story. Fausto, il Campionissimo, tells his story. His wife Bruna and the Dama Bianca, Giulia Occhini – his women – too: often new and touching confessions. And then his generous and moving family, above all mother Angiolina, but also his brother Livio. His faithful and dedicated supporting riders, the ruthless rivals, Gino Bartali and the others. Friends, those who knew him well. Until that absurd death at only 40 years old for a trivial and almost inexplicable error of doctors. But around him also the story of the roaring and crucial years of the twentieth century, wars, politics, customs, other sports. The seasons of a century that already belong to our memory, that young people will be able to discover carefully and that it is always pleasant to relive.

Beppe Conti is a sportscaster. He has worked for the newspaper Tuttosport for over 30 years, and now is a television correspondent for Rai Sport. In 2006 he won the CONI Prize. His book “A Pirate’s life”, dedicated to the cyclist Marco Pantani, had been translated into Japanese.
