Femminismo terrone. Per un’alleanza dei margini
by Fauzia, Claudia, Amenta, Valentina‘It must be hard being a woman, and a queer one at that, in Sicily’: Claudia Fauzia and Valentina Amenta often hear this remark from people who seem to share their same struggle. A phrase that implies, in reality, the idea of an irredeemably macho South, refractory to any form of emancipation, marginal. But what if this very marginality is, following bell hooks, ‘a place of radical possibility, a space of resistance’? Through a decolonial and gendered lens, the authors assert the need for a “terrone feminism”: a cultural revolution that challenges deep-rooted beliefs about southern identity and subverts the North-South axis on which the hegemonic narrative is based, not only in Italy. It is a journey of emancipation and discovery of other identities, struggles and experiences, a precious cue for anyone who wants to understand and fight the injustices that still affect the South and the southerners today.
