Con il mare dentro
by Fauzia, Claudia
“Even a blazing fire must yield before the sea.”
Lucia is seventeen, with a world in turmoil inside her and another beyond the walls of her home that she longs to conquer. But her heart swims against the current in a reality that speaks in masculine endings, making her feel dirty and out of place far too often. Her father is the first obstacle—their clashes are always stormy.
Even the sea itself is masculine. It has always belonged to men, to their adventures and their conquests. And perhaps for this reason, it will not listen to Lucia, who dreams of becoming a freediver, and instead, it will try to swallow her whole.
Understanding Lucia is not always easy, not even for Roberto, who has been connected to her since their first day of high school.
Though the sea is her challenge and her life, Lucia takes a step back. Until she finds something.
A poem, seemingly written just for her, left between the pages of a book.
Finding the person who wrote those words becomes her mission, because the author—whoever they are—seems to hold all the answers she has been searching for.
To solve the mystery, Lucia sets off for the Aeolian Islands, where she will uncover the stories of women who have defied the sea, steering the course of their own lives. And in doing so, she will embark on a journey of self-discovery—learning how to rise from her own depths and chart her own path forward.
