Beijing: the Italian Pavilion at the Book Fair

The Italian Pavilion was inaugurated at the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF). It was organized by ICE—the Agency for the Promotion Abroad and Internationalization of Italian Enterprises—in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing, and the Italian Publishers Association (AIE). The opening ceremony, held on June 19, 2026, was attended by industry professionals, publishers, and visitors.

The Italian Pavilion features Acoma Books, Eli Publishing, Erickson, the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia Institute, Nina Edizioni, and Reggio Children.

In 2024, China ranked third worldwide in the purchase of translation rights from Italy with 495 titles, behind only Spain and France, according to data provided by the AIE. Children’s and young adult books are driving sales, accounting for approximately 65% of the rights sold. This figure confirms the Chinese market’s interest in Italian publishing ahead of the 2027 edition of the Bibf, when Italy will be the guest of honor.
