Paris: Giorgio Caproni’s short stories
Giorgio Caproni‘s collection of short stories in French translation, Au fil des jours et autres nouvelles (Cahiers de l’Hôtel de Galliffet, Paris, 2023,) will be presented on 20 September at 7 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris. With the participation Irène Bouslama, Michela Baldini, Isabelle Lavergne (s.r.), Jean-Yves Masson, Jean-Baptiste Parà and Lucia Visonà. The debate will be moderated by Paolo Grossi (Cahiers de l’Hôtel de Galliffet).
Giorgio Caproni (1912-1990) was one of the greatest Italian poets of his time. His collections of verse, including Il passaggio d’Enea (1956), Il seme del piangere (1959) and Il muro della terra (1975), are unanimously regarded as the pinnacles of twentieth-century Italian poetry. His prose, on the other hand, is less well known. Thanks to this new title in the “Cahiers de l’Hôtel de Galliffet” collection, which brings together seventeen short stories, most of which were published in newspapers and magazines in the 1930s and 1940s, French readers have access to a wide sample of Caproni’s work as a narrator, in particular for the variety of subjects covered: the war and his experience in the Resistance, the post-war period with its promises and disillusions, the sea and the unique adventures it offers…
