I grandi eroi della montagna. Uomini e donne che si sono distinti sulle vette più alte del mondo, superando i limiti umani

Man’s relationship with the mountains is very ancient. The mountain, often hostile and dangerous, protected him from danger, allowed him to see the world from above, as a whole, to look at the sky and feel closer to infinity. And the place where man finds himself, pushing himself beyond his limits, in the solitude of the peaks, even in the midst of his climbing companions. This book is a mosaic of stories of heroes who have distinguished themselves on the world’s highest peaks, carrying out heroic feats, risky rescues, bringing a little of their own lives to the mountains they climbed. Men and women who remained in the history of world mountaineering, of different nationalities and ages, with very different backgrounds and cultural and social substrata. An unforgettable journey to discover each hero, exceptional, strong, and at the same time able to look at their own frailties, to overcome them with awareness and courage. Fascinating portraits of the men and women who have challenged altitude and human limits. Among the heroes: Reinhard Karl. Mountaineering writer Tarcisio Fazzini. Classic, neo-romantic Erard Loretan. Annapurna traverse Charlie Porter. Space traveller Jim Bridwell. Hippie giant Walter Bonatti. King of the Alps George Mallory. ‘Why do you want to climb Everest?’ – ‘Because it’s there.’ Reinhold Messner. The slab at Sass dla Crusc Daniele Nardi. The boy from the plains. Among the heroines: Lucy Walker. On the Matterhorn in petticoats Mary Varale. Against the machismo of high altitude Beverly Johnson. The climber with the camera Ninì Pietrasanta. The gentle maiden and daring exploits Junko Tabei. The first woman on the summit of Everest Ginette Harrison. The doctor of heights Chantal Mauduit. The first female Lhotse climber Julie Tullis. High altitude documentary filmmaker.
