I Malavoglia

by Verga, Giovanni
I Malavoglia

At the heart of the narrative is the Provvidenza, the most illustrious boat in Italian literature and the oldest fishing boat in the village. The story revolves around the misfortune of the Malavoglia family, triggered by the sinking of the Provvidenza, which was loaded with lupins purchased on credit. Thus unfolds an extraordinarily complex plot that never strays from the painful unfolding of the drama. This is a series of setbacks, blow after blow against the Malavoglia, each time they manage to get back up from the previous blow through resignation and courage. Introduction by Carla Ricciardi and afterword by Vincenzo Consolo.
