An old dossier that brings to light the long-forgotten figure of the true inventor of panettone. The conquest of Mars, an invasion of nocturnal butterflies, an extraordinary snowfall, and, finally, an unexpected antidote that protects a small group of citizens from a sudden epidemic. A surreal dialogue between two characters at a bus stop. And then, still more: nonexistent islands, journeys (to the afterlife?), unsettling dreams and awakenings… The author mimics different genres – from detective fiction to science fiction to erudite biography – playing with a restless, shape-shifting prose, wandering through these eight narratives, suspended between satire, sarcasm, and disenchanted self-irony.
