Sherlock Holmes is a character who is more alive than ever, continually revisited by film and literature: he is the greatest detective of all time and has been solving new cases for 130 years. It was high time, therefore, that he was investigated: Investigation of Sherlock Holmes is a journey into the world created by Conan Doyle; it is a biography of its author, a man who would have liked to achieve fame and glory through historical novels, but instead ended up unwittingly perhaps by reinventing and making the detective novel a work of art.
