Kurofune
by Palazzesi MartaJapan, 1852. On the run from his family, 15-year-old Portuguese boy Tiago Barreto boards the ship Mississippi, destination Nagasaki. Unjustly accused of murder and sentenced to death, Tiago manages to escape his fate but he is caught by Kentaro, who is also 15 and Japanese, not to mention highly skilled with a sword and the son of a clan thathates Westerners. Although they cannot stand each other, the two youths are forced to team up. Kentaro needs to find his sister, who’s been kidnapped, while Tiago relies on Kentaro to reach Nagasaki and freedom. So begins an adventurous journey by land and sea, accompanied by Kentaro’s majestic dog Mamoru (which means “Protector” in Japanese).

Palazzesi Marta
Marta Palazzesi, milanese, is a writer, translator, consultant for publishing and film production companies. With the novel Nebbia, in 2020 she won the Strega Prize for Girls and Boys 6-10 years and the Sceglilibro Prize, the latter also won in 2022 with her second novel, Mustang. Her stories always arise from her great passions: her closeness to the great sagas, fantasy and otherwise.
