L’asino mancino. Archeologia di un’educazione

The class dunce, lazy and lefthanded, has failed to pass more than one year, and always chooses the furthest seat in the classroom, right at the corner where the walls can better support the head for a little nap. He has been obliged to go to school, but nobody can spark any curiosity in him and is regarded as a lost cause; he is destined to change his skin, just like Collodi’s Pinocchio. The dunce’s life is about to change after the meeting with a real teacher and some unexpected masters. He tries the educator career in Naples, moves to Brasil, passes all the exam to become a university professor, teaches pedagogy in Rio de Janeiro, becomes one of the major experts in Paulo Freire’s figure, and moves bache to Naples to teach at the Federico II University. In this School Diary à la Pennac there are seriousness and lightness, irony and politics: Paolo Vittoria resumes his own story, witnessing the actual and merciless situation of public education, obsessed by business, technology, meritocracy and excellence rhetoric.
