Missitalia
by Durastanti ClaudiaAmalia Spada is an adventuress far removed from the turmoil that agitates the coming nation; a woman with a restless and reckless spirit. She lives in a house amidst the Lucanian badlands that has become a refuge for underprivileged and rebellious creatures in search of a new life, for wild girls and men of severed strength. When industrialisation arrives, the factory swoops into their lives like a dark object of desire, forever changing their destiny. In the post-war years and the energy race, a young anthropologist named Ada explores the Basilicata of witchcraft and oil as she discovers different incarnations of love. Moving between centres of power and extraction facilities, Ada finds herself entangled in a disturbing and magnetic South that revolutionises the course of her existence. One hundred years later, Lucania has become the base for the colonisation of the Moon: from here, the spacecraft of the Mediterranean Space Agency depart for the New World. In this futuristic settlement, one finds A, a lonely, free woman who restores unwanted objects to life on behalf of the Agency. In her past, there was a husband, but also the need to go far away; in her present, the desire to reconcile herself with the idea of the end. Illuminated by flashes and sudden ignitions like fireworks bursting at different heights, Missitalia is a novel that, when confronted with History, chooses to tell its own: it is a slit on the unspoken or merely imagined possibilities of time.
