Quando sarai a casa
by Leone, Valentina
Quando sarai a casa follows the intersecting stories of two characters who feel out of place in their own lives. Latif, a seventeen-year-old of Tunisian origin who emigrated alone to Turin at his grandfather’s behest, is frequently bullied by his peers for his halting Italian. Secretly in love with Margherita, he dreams of confessing his feelings but never finds the courage to do so. His only friend is an unconventional friar who teaches him the art of repairing engines—and the art of pursuing one’s dreams. Alba, meanwhile, is a young woman who loves literature and travel; she is trapped in a stifling relationship and a claustrophobic job, from which she suddenly walks away. The setting for the encounter—and clash—between Alba and Latif is “Il Glorioso,” an ancient camper van that will take them across Italy in search of a place to call home: a sanctuary for the soul, a space where they can finally be happy. Inspired by a true story, Quando sarai a casa is a tale of rebirth and the importance of giving oneself a second chance to be truly authentic—and truly free.
