Tra le pagine della fame. Un viaggio letterario

by Ricaldone, Luisa
Tra le pagine della fame. Un viaggio letterario

A journey through the literatures that have depicted the many faces of hunger: as a political weapon of annihilation or a consequence of climatic and wartime disasters; as a deliberate act of bodily mortification or a form of civil protest; as the ultimate expression of devastating poverty, a pathological refusal to eat, or a metaphor that extends beyond material food scarcity to signify something deeper. A curated selection of readings, historical and existential landscapes, powerful testimonies, and emotionally charged works of fiction. For generations in the so-called developed world, hunger has remained a distant reality. Yet in a time like ours, where war and famine are once again converging into a threatening global crisis, engaging with this theme – through reflections on both well-known and lesser-known literary texts, as explored in this volume – can offer insight into the forces that have driven entire populations into the horrors of famine and death.
