Una classica serata jazz
by Brandoni Reno
In the most famous cemetery in Paris, the Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin is buried not far from the French pianist Michel Petrucciani. This curious juxtaposition inspires the new book by Reno Brandoni, illustrated by Chiara di Vivona, where the ghosts of the two masters, from two musical worlds traditionally considered antithethical, meet in the space between their headstones. But can jazz and classical ever really meet? The lively and emotionally moving imaginary dialogue that ensues contains a precious lesson: music has no barriers between genres, because it lives in the heart of all of us.
