Estate caldissima
by Dal Lago, Gabriella
It’s the hottest summer in the last 200 years. The city is surrendering under the muggy heat, while work goes on, relentlessly driven by deadlines. Seven adults, a child, and a cat seek relief in a countryside house, where temperatures are more bearable. The adults are neither relatives nor quite friends. They work together at Bomba Agency, a communications agency, and have a presentation to prepare for a client. Just one week. All together. Cut off from the world. «Like the Decameron, but without the plague». Yet each of them arrives carrying their own burden, made of ambition, anxiety, hopes and fears. The long, hot summer pushes everything to extremes, enhances every sensation and feeling, deepening the uncertainty in already fragile relationships – between people and between humans and the planet. In this captivating ensemble novel, Gabriella Dal Lago takes us into a world where everyone stands on the threshold, precariously, imagining a future that remains unwritten and uncertain.
