La manutenzione dei sensi
by Faggiani FrancoAt a crossroads between chance and destiny we meet Leonardo Guerrieri, a fifty-year-old widower, with a brilliant past and a future adrift, and Martino Rochard, a taciturn boy who faces his own instabilities in solitude. Leonardo and Martino have different origins and ages, but the same secluded character. The boy, in temporary foster care, doesn’t ask, doesn’t demand, doesn’t tell: he keeps to his own business and never bothers. In middle school, however, Martino, now a teenager, was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome. To get away from the quicksand of apathy that is about to suck them both in, Guerrieri decides to leave Milan and move to a large house, far away and isolated, in the middle of the woods and meadows at high altitude, in the Piedmont Alps.It will be precisely in the silence of the mountain, observing the clouds in the sky and taking the animals to pasture, that the boy will find himself and his father a new serenity. In contact with simple things and genuine people, also thanks to the friendship with the gruff Augusto, an elderly mountain man of ancient wisdom, father and son will rediscover themselves more alive, vigorously cultivating their respective passions and inclinations.A positive story is at the center of this novel which overflows with humanity and authentic sensitivity and which contains a reflection on the fleeting border that divides normality from diversity.A novel about change, fatherhood, youth, in which father and son will rediscover their truest dimension in contact with nature, reclaiming indispensable values such as simplicity and beauty.
