Lineamenti di letteratura italiana. Vol. 1: Dalle Origini al Trecento

by Il Grande, Paola
Lineamenti di letteratura italiana. Vol. 1: Dalle Origini al Trecento

When did Italian literature begin? What are the first compositions that attest to its origin? Through a timely synthesis we retrace the beginnings of our national literature starting from the Cantico delle creature by San Francesco d’Assisi up to the Laude of Jacopone da Todi and the compositions of the Sicilian School and the Siculo-Tuscans. Then follows the analysis of the works and movements that mark the transition from classical Latin to the vernacular in the literary field with the poets of the “Dolce Stil Novo”, the prose prior to and contemporary of Dante, and the “three Florentine columns”, up to the vast production of texts from the Italian thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, belonging to various literary genres, including historiography and short stories. Finally, an entire section is dedicated to Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy. Furthermore, an introduction is proposed of the general lines regarding the different cultural and literary movements within which the common criteria that gave rise to the texts of the original Italian literary tradition were developed. For further information on the sources used, please refer to a final bibliography containing editions of the works and critical studies. Through QRcode it is also possible to access the website, which includes an anthology of texts commented on and accompanied by useful links for consulting multiple critical voices at the same time and for reading the works cited in the volume. Knowledge of the compositions selected in the anthology is considered essential in preparing for university exams in Italian literature from its origins to the fourteenth century, and for university and state tests and competitions. In the “sitography” section there are also video and in-depth links.
