Ragazze perbene

by Campofreda, Olga
Ragazze perbene

In provincial towns, respectable girls all look alike. To escape a future that has already been mapped out for her, Clara moves to London, where she teaches Italian to wealthy expats and finds herself caught up in the whirlwind of online dating. But the wedding of her beautiful cousin Rossella, her inseparable childhood friend who has become a wedding dress model, draws her back to Caserta. Clara finds herself back in the world she fled: at her cousin’s hen party, she sees her old school friends again, and in the following days she meets Luca, the groom, with whom she had a secret friendship in the past. Suddenly, however, Rossella disappears without a trace. Convinced that her cousin is hiding something, Clara discovers a secret in her diary that is impossible to reveal and threatens the bright future that Rossella has always embodied. Olga Campofreda lifts the veil on the double lives and hidden desires of respectable young women, whose destinies mirror a femininity that speaks of sacrifice and renunciation, of Prince Charmings and secrets, of unhappiness handed down from mother to daughter. She tells the story of a girl who rebels against worn-out dreams and customs to invent a new path, all her own, to be built with awareness day after day.
