newitalianbooks promotes Italian publishing in Mexico and China
newitalianbooks, the trilingual portal published by the Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani, will create new digital showcases to promote Italian books at the Guadalajara International Book Fair and the China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair
newitalianbooks, the only national portal dedicated to promoting Italian books abroad, continues its commitment to the internationalization of Italian publishing with new digital showcases at major international book fairs.
On the occasion of the 40th edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (28th November–6th December 6, 2026), where Italy will be the guest of honor, newitalianbooks will launch, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia Institute, the Center for Books and Reading of the Ministry of Culture, and in collaboration with the Italian Publishers Association (AIE), a trilingual digital showcase (Italian, English, and Spanish) dedicated to new Italian publications not yet translated into Spanish.
The initiative, which represents an important opportunity for Italian books to gain visibility in the Spanish-speaking market, is open to Italian publishing houses and literary agencies free of charge. They may submit their titles by 3rd July 2026, following the procedures outlined in the GUADALAJARA 2026 Call for Entries.
Following the success of the first edition, which saw the participation of over seventy publishers and agents,newitalianbooks is also issuing a new call for submissions for the second edition of the digital showcase in Chinese, aimed at promoting Italian children’s books worldwide, and particularly in China, at the China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair, scheduled to take place in Shanghai from 13th to 15th November 2026.
The initiative, supported by Treccani, the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai, and the Ministry of Culture’s Center for Books and Reading, in collaboration with the Italian Publishers Association (AIE) and the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, is aimed at Italian publishing houses and literary agencies, which may submit their book profiles by 25th May 2026, following the instructions provided in the China 2026 Call for Entries.
The activities promoted by newitalianbooks also include the showcases organized for the London Book Fair (10th–12th March 2026), dedicated to Italian fiction and aimed at the English-speaking and French-speaking markets. The titles, selected by experienced literary scouts and translators working in the two linguistic areas, are presented in profiles
accompanied by the book’s cover, a description of the content, a list of awards received and existing translations, the contact information of the rights agent, and a short excerpt in Italian or in English or French translation.
In addition to the multilingual showcases, the portal provides industry professionals with databases and tools for information and in-depth analysis, including the Guide to Grants and Awards for the Translation of Italian Books into Foreign Languages, which offers an up-to-date overview of opportunities to support the international dissemination of Italian publishing.
newitalianbooks has been the voice of Italian books in the world since 2020.
Promoted by Treccani with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Center for Books and Reading of the Ministry of Culture, and the Lauro Chiazzese Foundation for Art and Culture, in collaboration with the Italian Publishers Association, the portal promotes Italian publishing, language, and culture on the international stage. With over 3,500 published titles and 330 participating publishers, newitalianbooks facilitates the translation of the latest Italian publications by connecting the various players in the publishing industry in Italy and abroad, thanks in part to the support of the Italian Cultural Institutes.
The French version of newitalianbooks has received, starting this year, the prestigious distinction of the Délégation à la langue française et aux langues de France (French Ministry of Culture).
