Gabriele D’Annunzio, the great multiform European intellectual, was also interested in food and cooking, especially during the years of the Vittoriale. The arrival of a lover usually caused the poet to crave food, and so he wrote a quick note to his faithful cook Albina (Suor Intingola), ordering a breakfast for the stranger who had come under his claws. At other times, however, he felt that a dish was needed that would suit a particular type of female beauty. Andrea Maia collects in the book Il piacere a tavola con Gabriele D’Annunzio the favorite dishes of the Vate, with a particular look to the recipes of his native land of Abruzzo.

Andrea Maia is originally from Niella Tanaro, in the Monregalese area, where he set his novels. In them, Piedmontese cooking is often present, given the author’s interest for gastronomy, dating back to his early youth.
